NYFurs Events (events.nyfurs.org) uses a system called Indico, an open-source event management system tailored to streamline event planning and registration. Indico enables NYFurs to efficiently coordinate various aspects of event organization, from scheduling sessions and managing participant registrations to handling logistics and collecting feedback.

With its extensive feature set, Indico provides NYFurs staff and members with powerful tools to create, promote, and run events with ease. This platform is crucial in ensuring smooth communication, a well-structured event schedule, and accessible information for attendees.

Indico has its own extensive documentation system, but this document aims to provide information for anybody to create their own event, even from scratch!

You do not have to read everything in this documentation to understand how to make an event. Follow the key points and read closer in the documentation on the parts you get lost.

Event Creation Video

An extensive video tutorial is also available to help you create your event. This is more designed for staff members, but a newer video is in the works.

Concept

To create an event, you must have the basis idea of what kind of event you would like to have. In our case, you’re looking to host an event where furries can get together. Since furries represent a unique, niche community with shared interests in anthropomorphic characters, culture, and art. While these topics may seem broad, these shared interests can be narrowed down based on what you, the host, want to do.

The best part is, this guide does not have to apply to just furry events— this can apply to any type of event. We are focusing on a furry community for our sake.

Event Outline

Writing an outline for your event concept is also a great way to prepare for your event before it happens. It provides you a draft of what to expect for the event, making it much easier for you to run it.
